Frequently injuries take place during the birth process, which leads to altered brain to body communication. This dysfunction in how the brain is working has been linked to a variety of children’s problems.
Here are 3 ways to know if your baby likely has a birth injury:

Obvious Postural Problems
If your baby has suffered a birth injury frequently you will be able to see certain postural problems. Such as tilting of the head to one side, inability to turn the head both ways, and sometimes even tighter muscles will be noticed on one side of the body, compared to the other.
Difficulty Sleeping
Sleeping problems in newborns can be a result of regular ear infections, colic and other conditions. When the upper neck is misaligned due to a birth injury the eustachian tube that drains the ears can be effected. Upper cervical chiropractic care has proved to be extremely effective at correcting this underlying birth injury in restoring proper function to the eustachian tube.
For instance, one study looked at 332 children with chronic ear infections. The results show that 80% of the children did not experience another ear infection within a six-month period.
The digestive system can also be affected when an upper neck misalignment is present in an infant and this can result in colic. In one study 316 infants with colic were evaluated and 94% of the participants improved following upper cervical chiropractic care.
Difficulty Eating
Eating difficulties can come in the form of problems with breast-feeding, acid reflux or colic.
We’ve seen tremendous success with babies struggling with acid reflux and we were even featured on the Ricki Lake show because of our great success.
Difficulty with breast-feeding is another common problem that responds well to upper cervical chiropractic. It is the innate ability of the full-term newborn to engage her mother and to initiate feeding at the breast at the moment of birth.
There are several reasons as to why the newborn’s ability to suckle and breastfeed may be compromised. It is estimated that 2.6% of births are complicated by some type of birth trauma. Mechanical forces such as compression, distraction, torsion or a combination of these are sustained during the birth process. These forces can greatly reduce range of motion in the neck and create neurological deficits.
