Some estimates reveal that as many as 7 in 10 young athletes who sustain a potential concussion keep playing rather than retiring to the locker room (or even a doctor’s office) for a more thorough examination. These estimates were released by the US government in a September 2015 report.
The CDC’s Dr. Grant Baldwin has stated that 2.5 million people sustain brain trauma in the US each year. The number of persons in the US living with disabilities caused by brain injuries is presently 5.3 million. Besides the pain caused to the individuals, this also places a $60 billion dollar burden on the economy. Brain injuries can result in many disabilities including:
- Depression and anxiety
- Cognitive problems (memory and concentration)
- Sensory problems
- Double vision
- Sound and light sensitivity
And these are just some of the potential signs of a brain injury. Unfortunately, most doctors just prescribe rest and pain medications and leave the body to try and heal itself from the trauma. It is often not that simple of a fix.
At Vital Wellness Life Center, we take a more proactive approach to relieving brain trauma. Head and neck injuries often cause a misalignment of the C1 or C2 vertebrae. When such a misalignment exists, the symptoms noted above, as well as many others, can persist long after an injury. We use the NUCCA technique to identify and correct such a misalignment. Then the body can actually begin to heal itself.
A seven mile per hour car accident can cause damage to the neck of an adult. Image what a collision at much greater speeds on a sports field can do to a young person. Especially when the brain is still in the developmental stages, it is important to have injured athletes examined for an upper cervical misalignment. Correcting the problem quickly can prevent a lifetime of mysterious symptoms.
