Neck pain and stiffness are a common problem. One may feel as if he would like to improve the mobility of his neck and alleviate some of the stiffness. Let’s discuss a few things that will help accomplish this.
Stretching the Muscles of the Neck to Relieve Pain
Stretching is a good idea for anyone as It improves blood flow to the muscles and ligaments and helps them get stronger. This often results in less discomfort and a greater range of motion. The neck, in particular, contains dozens of muscles and ligaments that should regularly be cared for. Here are a few stretches that will help one to have better neck health.
- Neck stretches: Keep the arms at the side of the body and relaxed. Tilt the head first to one side as far as is comfortable and a nice stretch is felt. Hold for a few seconds and then try the other side.
- Shoulder shrugs: Again, keeping the arms at the sides of the body, repeatedly shrug the shoulders in an up and down, controlled motion.
- Shoulder stretches: With the arms relaxed at the side of the body, press the shoulders back. A good stretch will be felt in the shoulder blades and lower area of the neck.
Further Help for Neck Pain Naturally
Another great way to ensure the health of the neck is to visit an upper cervical chiropractor regularly. Here at Vital Life Wellness Center, we examine each patient’s neck to see if there is a misalignment in the top bones causing neck pain. It only takes a misalignment of ¼ of a millimeter to cause problems throughout the body. Therefore, proper alignment in this area of the body is particularly important for the health of the entire body. We use a gentle method to encourage a misaligned bone to move back into place. This is helpful in improving neck mobility and decreasing the pain associated with spinal misalignments.
