Concussion, Head Trauma, Headache, Head Pain, Kid Sports, Post-Concussion SyndromeWhile playing sports is a great form of recreation for young people, there are some dangers that their caregivers and coaches will want to be aware of. There are approximately up to three million sports-related injuries each year. The majority of these affect high school students. While the damage done to the person is of some concern, the after effects can be even more devastating if not treated properly. This may include headaches, pain in the neck area, and recovery time.

Giving Attention to Sports-Related Injuries

There have been recent reports of the death of high-school students due to sports-related injuries that could have been avoided if proper care was received after the accident and ensuing concussion. Inexperienced players may think if they just ignore the pain it will go away. It is important for young players to be supervised and encouraged to seek care if there is any type of concern that a concussion may have occurred. What symptoms should a person look for?

  • Loss of balance
  • Slowed verbal responses
  • Amnesia
  • Loss of consciousness (not always required with concussions)
  • Disorientation
  • Forgetfulness
  • Confusion
  • Emotional reactions that are not appropriate
  • Personality changes; moodiness
  • Lack of coordination

Post-Concussion Care Through Upper Cervical Chiropractors

We have been specifically trained to look for misalignments in a person’s neck. This is often the reason for the lingering effects of a concussion. A blow to the head or neck can easily misalign one of the top bones of the vertebrae, causing the body and brain to no longer communicate properly. Cerebrospinal fluid flow and blood flow become hindered. Nerve flow is also impeded. This can create a number of problems throughout the body, such as the symptoms mentioned above.

At Vital Life Wellness Center, once we find and correct these misalignments, the healing process in the body can begin to work naturally. Recovery time may lessen and before long, lingering concussion symptoms can become a thing of the past. The game will be on, once again!
