Whatever the scenario was that caused that pain in your neck, the results are the same. There’s pain in your neck, and you don’t want to suffer from it any more. That one decision of the driver behind you not only interrupted your plans for the day, but it also interrupted your plans your life.

No matter the details of the accidents that led to your whiplash, you want to take the necessary steps to overcoming that pain. The problem is it’s not like the common cold. You can’t just hope it goes away with some bedrest. You need to do something to make it go away.

Below are some steps you can take to overcome whiplash:

Healing from Whiplash

Ice your neck – Icing your neck with an ice pack for 20-30 minutes about every three to four hours for the first two or three days after your accident is important. You will want to cover the pack with a paper towel or thing cloth towel, so as to avoid getting frostbite.

Moist Heat – Don’t do this until after you have iced your neck for two or three days, and the initial swelling has started going down. This might also be a good time to take a nice hot bath or get in the hot tub.

Neck Brace or Collar – You will only want to wear a neck brace if your upper cervical chiropractor recommends it. The reason is because they can cause the muscles to become weaker, so you should only do this after you get your neck examined.

Upper Cervical – Too many people skip chiropractic, and many of those don’t know about the benefits of upper cervical chiropractic. Allowing an upper cervical chiropractor to examine your upper cervical spine for any misalignments is an important step to take in healing from whiplash.

Post Whiplash Complications

When you were hit, your neck muscles cracked in a whiplike motion, which caused them to become hyperextended. That hyperextension of your upper cervical spine most likely caused the top two vertebrae in your spine to fall out of alignment. And that misalignment can lead to migraines, multiple sclerosis, carpal tunnel, vertigo, TMJ, or more.
